The Fitter’s overall job duties are to ensure proper alignment of metal structures and pipe.  The Fitter must do the following activities in order to complete all job duties.

The Fitter will:

• Use cutting torch to cut metal to properly align beams, grating, stairways, and pipe.
• Use a come-a-long to assist in aligning materials to properly fit materials.
• Use forklifts to move materials in yard.
• Use grinder to remove slag and smooth metal to achieve a better fit.
• Use squares, levels, torch, and center punch to assist in fitting.
• Use grinder and torch overhead to tack and fit material.
• Use a hammer wrench to tighten stud bolts on valves and flanges.
• Use a sledgehammer to help tighten stud bolts on valves and flanges.

The Fitter must:

• Bolt a ladder cage to structures.
• Help Riggers to hang a deck.
• Handle valves to fit with pipe in pipe rack.
• Load valves in basket to go on top of deck.
• Cut metal to properly align beams, grating, stairways, and pipe.
• Fit flanges and valves together when constructing the pipe rack.
• Align beams, grating, stairways, and pipe to be tacked and welded to complete the job.
