Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

The most important and essential job function of this position is attitude and includes the following: getting along with co-workers, responding politely to corporate clients and members of the community, working as a team member, functioning appropriately under pressure, responding in a positive manner to supervision, and maintaining inter-office confidentiality.  The duties below are examples of those required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook.
  • Gives directions to Overhead Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled.
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment.
  • Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.
  • Be able to get in and out of the cab of the forklift, cherry picker, and crane to assist in rigging of equipment.
  • Operate forklift, cherry picker and crane to move loads to desired areas and also in muddy conditions.
  • Use a grease gun to grease the crane tracks for proper operation.
